Moving-day efficiency is mostly created before the vehicle arrives. A clear route, accurate scope and prepared household allow the crew to focus on protection and handling. Last-minute sorting in active work areas increases risk and makes it difficult to distinguish packed, excluded and owner-carried belongings.
Confirm access one final time
Check the approved date, arrival window, gate procedure, vehicle position and destination contact. Make sure keys and access cards will be available. Tell the mover immediately if contractors, road work or community notices change the route.
The moving vehicle must not block emergency access or neighbouring driveways. If the carrying route crosses a shared area, keep it controlled and remove avoidable obstacles.
- Reconfirm gates and parking
- Share accurate property contacts
- Keep access cards available
- Report changes before arrival
Create safe working routes
Clear hallways, stairs and doorways of loose shoes, rugs, toys and decorative items. Good lighting helps the crew see steps and surface changes. Protect or identify fragile architectural finishes that require special care.
Children, pets and unnecessary visitors should remain away from open doors and lifting zones. Choose a closed, clearly marked room for anything that must not be packed or moved.
- Remove trip hazards
- Separate non-moving items
- Secure pets and children
- Keep tools and small fixings controlled
Prepare appliances and outdoor items
Empty, clean and dry refrigerators and freezers according to manufacturer guidance. Disconnect water, gas or complex electrical equipment through an appropriate technician where required. Back up computers before shutdown.
Clean and dry garden furniture, sports equipment and outdoor items. Fuels, cylinders, chemicals, plants, food and wet equipment may be restricted, so discuss them before moving day.
- Defrost and dry appliances
- Use qualified disconnection where needed
- Back up important devices
- Remove restricted materials
Keep one person available for decisions
The crew leader needs one authorised contact for exclusions, placement and changes. Multiple conflicting instructions can disrupt room labels and loading sequence. Other household members can manage children, pets or handover tasks without redirecting the crew.
Before departure, perform a systematic check from the highest room to the garden and garage. Keep documents, medicines, jewellery, cash, keys and first-night essentials in the customer’s own vehicle.
- Appoint one moving contact
- Walk through fragile priorities
- Check every storage space
- Carry valuables personally
